The DriveABLE On-Road Evaluation (DORE) by Taggart's Driving School

The majority of individuals taking the DriveABLE On-Road Evaluation are referred to Taggart's Driving School by a physician (neurologist, other medical specialty), hospital rehabilitation services or other medical professional after the patient has received a full medical evaluation, including the DriveABLE Cognitive Assessment Tool (DCAT). The DriveABLE Cognitive Assessment Tool, commonly referred to as DCAT, is an assessment protocol that uses cutting-edge hardware and software to identify medically at-risk drivers. The assessment presents six tasks that measure the cognitive processes needed for safe driving and predict actual on-road performance. Developed through years of university research, the DCAT is the most accurate cognitive assessment of driving performance available.
When Northwest Neurology's medical team needed a better, more objective and scientific method to assess their patients' fitness to drive, DriveABLE provided an efficient, cost-effective and reimbursable solution. We did our homework... the rest is history. I fell in love with DriveABLE and we have literally tested over a thousand people in our area.
-Dr. Robert Bashuk, MD

WHAT IS THE DORE?
The DriveABLE On-Road Evaluation (DORE) is a scientifically developed on-road evaluation that tests specifically for the decline in the cognitive skills needed for safe driving. Unlike other on-road tests, the DORE tests for cognitive impairment and not bad-habit errors which are common amongst experienced drivers.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The DriveABLE On-Road Evaluation (DORE) is one of the only driving tests that compare the driving errors of healthy drivers against drivers that are cognitively impaired. The DORE is licensed for use to experienced on-road evaluators with a DriveABLE standardized road course. The scoring system focuses on the driving errors that signal cognitive impairment. To protect the competent driver, the scoring system explicitly excludes errors that are made by experienced, healthy drivers and not associated with competence decline.

A Taggart's staff person will then contact you within two business days directly to schedule an appointment for the evaluation. Once the in-car evaluation is completed, the instructor/examiner will enter the results on the DriveABLE server, which will then be provided electronically following HIPAA guidelines to your physician/hospital rehabilitation service or other medical provider for evaluation by the referring medical professional. Your medical professional will then schedule a meeting with you to discuss the results of your assessment.
The fee for the DriveABLE On-Road Evaluation by Taggart's Driving School is $259.00, which is paid when the appointment is made with the Taggart's staff person on the telephone or via e-mail (MasterCard, Visa and American Express accepted). The fee includes the on-road portion of the DORE assessment and preparation and transfer of the results to your physician or other medical provider. The patient is responsible for transportation to the evaluation site and their return home (transportation to and from the evaluation starting point is available for an additional charge). It is strongly recommended that the patient does not drive themselves to the evaluation site. The actual driving portion of the D.O.R.E and report preparation will take approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours. (Medicare reimbursement may be possible for this evaluation.)
